Preparing Postscript files on a PC

The following is a list of instructions to prepare a postscript file to send to Style. This is our preferred method as it makes sure all fonts and images are included in the file. Below is a list of steps involved in creating a postscript file.

1 - Download PPD

First create a new directory/folder called STYLEPPD on your C:\ drive.

At Style we have three PPD files, one for each different type of device we have.

  • STYPRESS.PPD Printer setup for full colour press download
  • STYDIGI.PPD Printer setup for in-house digital printers download
  • STYLARGE.PPD Printer setup for large format inkjet to A0 size download

You have an option to download one or all PPD's as zip file. download

Once downloaded save these files to the STYLEPPD directory created in the first step.

2 - Download AdobePS

At the time of writing these instructions the latest AdobePS driver is availiable from Adobe Downloads

3 - Setup a Virtual Printer

You need to create a separate virtual printer for each PPD.

1)

Double click on the downloaded AdobePS driver setup file.

Accept the licence agreements

Select option for "Install new Postscript Printer"

Select option for print to local printer.

Select file as port to print to

Select the browse button and choose the c:\STYLEPPD directory and you will see the availiable printers. Highlight the one you want then click on the "OK" button.

Highlight the PPD you want to setup and click the next Button

You can change the printer name to anything that makes sense to you. Also select no to test page and default printer options.

Next window select install which copies all needed files.

Answer "No" to option to configure printer now then click next.

Last hit the "finish" key to complete the process.

4 - Creating a postscript file

From the windows package select you select print to the Virtual Postscript printer setup above which creates a file on the disk which you send to us.

Choose "Print" from "File" menu

For your printer select the Style Printer setup above.

Click on the properties button next to the printer name, and choose the correct paper size

Select OK in the main print dialog box which brings up a second dialog box asking you where you would like to save the file.First, select ‘All files (*.*)’ from the drop down list called ‘Save as type’ at the bottom of the dialog. Next, type in the name of your PostScript file and end it with “.ps” so that we know it is a postscript file.
